I don’t think everything overlooked is valuable. Quite the opposite. But I do think interesting things are often hiding where nobody is looking. India has plenty of business and finance coverage. But the more I looked at it, the more I felt that some interesting parts of the market were being left out.

At the top, there wasn’t much bottom-up macro thinking, the kind that helps you understand what is really changing in the Indian and global economy and broader sectors, and how those changes are playing out among investors.

At the other end, thousands of mid, small and micro-cap companies barely got a mention. Not because they were necessarily bad businesses, but because they simply weren’t big enough to attract much attention. Some, I found, had genuinely interesting businesses, unusual positions in their value chains, or developments that could materially change their future.

Interesting things are often hiding where nobody is looking.

Given my knack for writing, this felt like a gap worth filling. So I started Filter Coffee Finance.

The Macro Brew: macro analysis of economic trends, policy changes, and sectors, and how they shape the bigger picture. The Edge Alert: in-depth research on small and mid-cap companies, their business models, financials, and risks. Brewed Up Insights are short news/research notes which are sandwiched between them!

Short, data-backed explainers on economic trends, business news, and regulatory decisions, backed by primary sources and charts. Sometimes that is India, sometimes it is the rest of the world, because the two rarely stay apart for long. My goal is to tell you what caught my attention, what the numbers say, and where I think the interesting tidbits are. And I’ll leave the rest to my fellow market nerds!
